OFFICIAL OPENING CEREMONY - WA MENTAL HEALTH WEEK - SOLD OUT!
This event is sold out.
The Mental Health Commission and the Western Australian Association for Mental Health (WAAMH) present the premiere of PIECES in association with Third Storey Pictures to launch Mental Health Week in 2022.
PIECES is a powerful film about a group of interconnected people living with mental health challenges who undertake an art therapy class that transforms not only their lives but the life of their teacher.
Please join us on Thursday 6 October from 3pm at Luna Palace Cinemas in Leederville for the Perth premiere of the PIECES to celebrate WA Mental Health Week.
The event will be officially opened by Minister for Mental Health The Hon. Amber-Jade Sanderson, with a Q & A after the film with director Martin Wilson and some of the cast and crew on stage.
Tickets are $12 with proceeds going to community mental health organisation HelpingMinds. Please email [email protected] if you have a lived experience as a consumer, carer or family member and are unwaged or on low income, and we can organise a subsidy.
There will be more screenings of PIECES in regional towns across WA and at the Backlot in West Perth during Mental Health Week - https://www.lidocinemas.com.au/movies/pieces?fbclid=IwAR0Ab4yHwCBLlWZ74KKZrLvhYhqGShpeUE-jbd_veFeoJ3rBX3hlSroAQU0
Bringing PIECES to the big screen was a project close to director, Martin Wilson's heart. He made the film to highlight the extraordinary efforts of mental health carers - too often the invisible, unheard champions supporting people close to them with complex mental health challenges.
Please be aware this film may contain themes and topics which may be triggering for some audiences. Viewer discretion is advised.
By launching the film in Mental Health Week, Martin hopes to demystify mental illness, and start conversations that debunks misconceptions and stereotypes that can amplify the stigma, discrimination and isolation experienced by people living with a mental illness diagnosis.
