Webinar - Selective Mutism Treatment for Speech Pathologists
Selective Mutism is a treatable condition but generally takes 1-2 years of treatment to resolve, and requires an intensive clinic as well as school treatment program. Children with Selective Mutism are often referred to a Speech Pathologist given their difficulties with communication. However given that Selective Mutism is an anxiety disorder rather than a speech disorder, some Speech Pathologists are unsure whether to take a leading role in the child’s treatment or whether to address the comorbid speech issues alone and also involve a psychologist in treatment. Some Speech Pathologists are keen to take on the main role in treatment and are able to achieve great outcomes. This webinar provides the information necessary to give Speech Pathologists the confidence to take a lead role in a treatment program for Selective Mutism.
This webinar covers topics such as:
What Speech Therapists can do to treat Selective Mutism
Key treatment strategies for Selective Mutism, such as graded communication hierarchies and 'Sliding In'
Ways to train teachers to effectively implement strategies in the classroom
Specific strategies to gradually enable children to become confident talkers with teachers, peers, and give presentations to their class
This webinar will also provide an opportunity to ask questions to the presenter, Elizabeth (a Clinical Psychologist) and Rosy Lloyd, our Speech Pathologist at the Selective Mutism Clinic.
