Join the Western Australian Association for Mental Health (WAAMH) at our Mental Health Week Closing Luncheon on Friday, 11th October.
This year's theme, "Empowering Communities, Thriving Workforces: A Journey Towards Investing in Our Mental Health," will guide our exploration of three key elements: Employment, Empowerment, and Expectations. Discover how these factors impact our wellbeing through engaging discussions and insights.

Panel of Speakers:
Chris Harris from Mineral Resources
Chris is a psychologist with more than thirty years’ experience in the mental health sector. Chris was a founding member of the Perth Children Hospital Eating Disorder Team (1996) and the Saint John of God Raphael Centre (2003). Chris was also the inaugural Mental Health Advisor to HRH King Charles III, Princes Trust (2016-2017). Chris is currently the Head of Mental Health for Mineral Resources Limited, which was awarded the WA Association for Mental Health and WA Mental Health Commission, Mentally Healthy Workplace Award, 2023. He has presented nationally and internationally and coauthored journal articles in the areas of eating disorders, suicide prevention and psychological wellbeing in the resources sector.
Michele Burnlar
Michele survived childhood trauma, and was told that her diagnoses would be permanent and debilitating. Despite this, she is thriving - employed in the mental health sector, raising two amazing children, and nurturing herself. Michele values curiosity, compassion and connection.
Dr Sarah Pollock
Dr Pollock is the Chief Mental Health Advocate for Western Australia. Prior to her appointment in February 2021, she held executive positions in mental health and community services organisations in the NGO sector for over fifteen years. In these she led research and strategy, policy advocacy and service development. In her last role before moving to WA, Sarah was seconded to the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System as a special advisor on the community mental health system. In addition to her professional experience, Sarah holds a PhD in health equity and human rights, a Master of Business, Graduate Diploma in Education and Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Psychology. As Chief Mental Health Advocate for WA, Sarah is responsible for running the Mental Health Advocacy Service (MHAS), a statutory authority that provides individual advocacy to every person subject to or at risk of involuntary detention and treatment under the Mental Health Act 2014 (WA), and to people with mental impairment who have been accused of a crime under the Criminal Law Mental Impairment Act 2023. MHAS contributes to system development through the conduct of inquiries and investigations into matters of systemic concern in child and youth mental health services and places where people with mental impairment accused of crimes are detained or are receiving statutory services.
