The With One Voice (WOV) Perth Choir is an inclusive community group that uses singing to encourage the unification of its members and facilitate the creation of new friendships and connections, through music.
It is a program created by the non-for-profit organisation Creativity Australia aiming to build a happier, healthier, more inclusive nation. Everyone is welcome to participate in the choir regardless of age, race, religion, disability or disadvantage.
The WOV Perth Choir helps bridge the gap between people who are disadvantaged and those more fortunate, through the neuro-scientific benefits of community singing, which has been proven to have a significant effect on the emotional and mental health of members.
The choir is led by a professional conductor Athena Litis and meets weekly at the Old Boys School on St George’s Terrace to rehearse. The rehearsal is followed by a light supper where choir members can socialise and build meaningful connections with one another.
Each week, choir members also participate in a Wish List networking opportunity which encourages choir members to fulfil the requests of those needing assistance in different areas of life. That support may help a member attain a new skillset, draft a resume, play an instrument, or attain employment.
The WOV Perth Choir is hosting a “Come and Try” night on Monday 19th October from 5.30pm and 7.30pm and invites all members of the community to join them. The “Come and Try” night is an opportunity to meet the conductor, to join in the singing rehearsal, and to enjoy a light supper with the choir members.
If you’d like to register for the “Come and Try” night, or if you’d like to join the WOV Perth Choir, please email WOVchoir@woodside.com.au.
